Fantasy Premier League: Key FPL tips for GW22
Semenyo: Smart pickup or risky?
Antoine Semenyo made an impressive start at Manchester City, scoring twice in his first two matches. Currently, 243,000 managers have brought him on board ahead of the Manchester Derby, and this number is increasing.
Semenyo has shown great form and is now part of a stronger team. City also has favorable matches ahead in the coming weeks.
However, there’s a significant concern. At Bournemouth, he played the full game almost every time, but that’s uncertain now. He faces strong competition for a starting spot, and coach Pep Guardiola may choose to rest him or substitute him early.
Despite this risk, he may be worth the transfer, especially if you’re looking to replace players like Matheus Cunha (£8.1m). As the top-scoring midfielder in FPL, he has impressive expected goals (7.64xG), and he should perform well at City.
Many managers might already have multiple City players. Is it wise to sell Phil Foden (£8.7m) or Rayan Cherki (£6.8m)? I’d suggest keeping Cherki but considering selling Foden, as he seems to have lost his form, and Semenyo could take on a larger role.
Is it time to bring Bruno back?
Bruno Fernandes (£9.1m) returning is a significant boost for Manchester United and FPL managers. Although United remained unbeaten in four matches without him, their attack struggled without his presence.
In his comeback match against Burnley, he contributed an assist, marking his 13th goal involvement this season. Despite United’s struggles, he is a reliable source for fantasy points.
But should you add him to your team now? United faces City in GW22, which is a tough match. They also have to play Arsenal next week, making it possibly wise to wait for easier fixtures before bringing him in, as GW24 looks more favorable.
However, if your budget allows, bringing Fernandes in now could still be a good decision since he has performed well against both City and Arsenal before.
Top captain picks
Recent performances have caused some doubts about Haaland, who has only scored once in his last four matches. City’s match against United could be winnable for them, but derbies can be unpredictable. He remains a strong option for captaincy, but not as reliable as earlier in the season.
With Liverpool set to face Burnley at Anfield, Hugo Ekitike (£8.9m) emerges as a solid alternative. He recently scored and assisted in his last match and could start against a struggling defense.
Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest, who haven’t kept a clean sheet lately. While Bukayo Saka (£10.2m) is a good player, I wouldn’t choose him as captain unless it’s an obvious decision. Gabriel Magalhães (£6.7m) could be a better option, as he has scored and kept clean sheets several times this season and is a key aerial threat during set pieces.
Lastly, Ollie Watkins (£8.8m) could be a unique choice against an Everton side that recently conceded multiple goals. However, he typically doesn’t score more than once in a game.
