According to Sports 360, Bolivian club The Strongest is facing a serious wage crisis as players have stopped training due to unpaid salaries. This conflict has created unrest among supporters and may extend past the September international break.
The club had promised to pay at least one of the three overdue salaries before the clásico against Bolívar, which led the team to end a previous strike to play the match. However, that promise was not met. “They didn’t pay what was promised, nor to those owed four months; I only know they settled with (Abdiel) Ayarza,” one player said.
Club president Daniel Terrazas had assured players that some of the debt would be cleared by August 29, but delays persist. Those awaiting payments for four months are particularly affected. One player pointed out, “If there wasn’t money for three or four of us, there’s even less for the rest.”
Despite these challenges, The Strongest leads the domestic league with 43 points from 18 matches. Their next match is scheduled for September 14 against Aurora in Cochabamba. Players are expected to return to training after the FIFA break, but they warned that further protests will occur if the issue remains unresolved.
