New York City FC held a topping out ceremony for their new stadium on Wednesday. Ethiad Park in Queens is expected to be ready for the 2027-28 MLS season.
A ceremonial steel beam was installed on the east side of the $780 million stadium. This beam featured signatures from the construction crew and included a message that read, “New York City FC. The FC Made in NYC.”
The stadium will have a seating capacity of 25,000 and is located directly across from Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Since its debut in 2015, NYCFC has primarily played its home games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
The 2026 MLS season will be the last to follow the current calendar year format. Next spring, the league will introduce a shortened 14-game schedule to prepare for the transition to a summer start, aligning with major leagues worldwide.
NYCFC’s new stadium is set to open in March or April 2027.
Etihad Park has already been chosen to host soccer events during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
