Tottenham Hotspur has parted ways with Igor Tudor after just 43 days as head coach, and club legend Chris Waddle has expressed strong criticism of the situation.

This is being viewed as one of the poor managerial choices in the club’s history. Appointing a manager without Premier League experience proved to be a risky move, and it hasn’t worked out well.

In his short time, Tudor secured only one win from seven matches, managing one point in five Premier League games. Initially brought in to help lift the team from relegation trouble, he leaves them in a difficult position.

Waddle criticizes board for recruitment and transfer issues

Waddle, speaking to 10bet, shared his concerns about the club’s direction while mostly sparing Tudor from blame.

“Where do Tottenham go from here? They might end up in The Championship. I’m worried about the situation at the club,” he said.

“Tottenham has been struggling for years. The Europa League win hid some issues, but the current squad isn’t strong enough for the Premier League. While players need to step up, the main issue is with the board and management. They haven’t invested appropriately in the team; they focus too much on future potential rather than current needs.”

New manager may not make a difference

Waddle also offered a sobering perspective on the impact of a new manager. He believes that no matter who takes over, the squad’s quality remains a concern.

“I don’t think a new manager will change anything. The players still lack the quality needed to turn things around,” he stated.

“Looking at the squad, it appears that many players don’t have the drive or skill to lift the club out of its current troubles.”

Waddle, who has a long history with Tottenham, expressed his sadness at the club’s current state.

Concerns over players’ commitment to avoid relegation

Waddle showed support for Tudor but was blunt about Tottenham’s future in the league.

“Don’t place the blame for these issues on the manager. It’s not Tudor’s fault; the responsibility lies with those managing the club,” he said.

“Tottenham is in a precarious position with only seven games left to save their season. The players must take action to rectify this—it’s time for them to step up and tackle their responsibilities.”

“Am I confident they can do it? Unfortunately, there’s little evidence to suggest that Tottenham will remain in the Premier League next season.”

Tottenham is expected to announce their new coach ahead of this weekend’s match against Sunderland.
