Evan Ferguson’s time at Roma hasn’t gone as planned, with goals proving hard to come by. Troy Deeney is more focused on how coach Gian Piero Gasperini has addressed the situation away from the field.

During a segment on CBS Sports, Deeney noted Gasperini’s comments about Ferguson’s physique, which he found inappropriate. He believes it’s less about Ferguson’s performance and more about how the coach perceives him.

Deeney pointed out that if Roma decides not to keep Ferguson, many other clubs would be eager to sign him.

“You could argue he isn’t performing at his best, but the manager is criticizing his player profile,” Deeney said. “That feels personal. For others, he makes exceptions regarding their performance.”

“My frustration is that Ferguson is there because he wants to prove himself. He can’t change his physique, and now the manager is saying he doesn’t fit his vision.”

“Okay then,” Deeney continued. “Brighton would take him back immediately, and many clubs in Europe would want him too.”

“Yet Roma won’t let him go because they want to retain his goals, but they still say he’s not their preferred player.”

Evan Ferguson’s Performance at Roma This Season

Roma is competing in the Europa League alongside Celtic, and they are currently performing well, aiming for a top-eight finish.

The Italian team visited Celtic Park in December during a challenging period under Wilfried Nancy, winning with a score of 3-0 and scoring three goals.

Ferguson scored twice in that match. However, his overall performance this season doesn’t seem to attract much interest from other clubs.
