Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in a return to Old Trafford, while Enzo Maresca is also considered as a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim as head coach.
The Red Devils are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Amorim following a 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League.
Amorim suggested that club executives were interfering with his role, stating that he “came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not the head coach”.
Manchester United is reportedly seeking a short-term replacement for Amorim before appointing a permanent manager in the summer.
Two unexpected candidates for Manchester United’s managerial position
Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United is aware of Solskjaer’s interest in returning, even on a six-month contract.
The Norwegian is eager to assist his former club as a caretaker, similar to his role in 2018. He received a permanent position in 2019 but was dismissed in 2021.
Solskjaer is currently available after being let go by Besiktas last year.
Additionally, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Maresca is on United’s shortlist for the role following his departure from Chelsea on New Year’s Day.
The report indicates that Maresca has a strong relationship with United CEO Omar Barrada, who previously brought him to Manchester City as an assistant to Pep Guardiola.
The 45-year-old has reportedly discussed the opportunity to succeed Guardiola with City on three occasions.
