UEFA’s Champions League has been in its new format for two seasons, reacting to the unsuccessful Super League plan of 2021. However, there may be more changes ahead.

Details: Reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that UEFA officials and Super League representatives have been in secret talks for several months. The Super League group is advocating for another change to the Champions League.

Proposed format:

  • Starting in 2027, 36 teams will be divided into two groups.
  • The top 18 clubs will compete against each other, ensuring eight high-caliber matches.
  • Teams ranked 19–36 will have their own competition for better balance.
  • Qualification for playoffs will continue to rely on points and rankings.
  • All matches will be streamed on a new platform, available for free with ads, or via a paid subscription without ads.
  • The tournament will still be called “Champions League.”
