All measures are aimed at safeguarding clubs and players.

UEFA is making rule changes to reduce the effects of long-term injuries on teams.

Details: Reports from AS state that the UEFA Executive Committee met today in Tirana, Albania, and approved new regulations to support clubs dealing with long-term player injuries.

The committee agreed to update the player registration rules for UEFA men’s club competitions starting in the 2025–26 season. This will allow clubs to temporarily replace one outfield player if that player faces a long-term injury or illness during the season, up to matchday six.

For example, if a player gets a long-term injury, a fit player can step in without affecting the team’s squad limit for the tournament.

“This change aims to prevent squad lists from becoming unfairly smaller and to help protect players from extra workload,” UEFA stated about the new rule.

Recall: It has been revealed which stadium will host the 2027 UEFA Champions League final.
