Virgil van Dijk has stated that not playing in the Champions League this season will significantly affect Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool’s recent loss to Wolves has made their campaign more difficult as they sit fifth in the Premier League, vying for a Champions League spot.
If they miss out, the club could lose approximately £120 million in revenue.
After spending a record amount last summer, Van Dijk confirmed that missing Champions League revenue would definitely affect the club’s summer transfer plans.
In his comments following the match, the Liverpool captain stressed that the stakes are very high as the season progresses.
“It will have an impact on the summer (transfer) window, for sure,” he said.
“The stakes are very high. Playing for Liverpool means we must qualify for the Champions League.”
“This season hasn’t been easy. We knew there would be ups and downs for various reasons. The league is competitive and demanding every few days, which makes it tough.”
“We need everyone performing at their best and a strong squad to cope. While we had some positive results recently, the loss today shows there’s still much work ahead. That’s our main focus.”
