As reported by Bolavip, the Venezuelan Football Federation has terminated Fernando “Bocha” Batista’s role as national team coach after a 6-3 loss to Colombia in Maturín. This defeat ended their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup playoffs. The federation announced the decision via their social media accounts.

Following the match, Batista, 55, held a short press conference without taking questions, where he expressed his apologies to Venezuelans for not meeting expectations. Later, president Jorge Giménez confirmed the end of Batista’s contract, which was set to last until December 2026. The statement highlighted that the decision was made because the team did not achieve the set objectives for this cycle. While the federation acknowledged Batista’s efforts, they felt a new direction was necessary for the Vinotinto’s development.

Batista’s departure will also lead to the exit of his entire coaching staff. The federation will now search for a new coach to guide the team as they aim for the 2030 World Cup, a goal that remains unachieved for Venezuela.

Batista began his coaching tenure in March 2023 after the departure of José Néstor Pékerman. In his 28 matches, he recorded 9 wins, 8 draws, and 11 losses. Despite some improvements, this record was insufficient to continue his position.
