Former Blasters player Rahul KP has announced that he will return to Kerala Blasters. He made this clear in an interview with a news channel. However, his statement has also led to some controversy and discussions.

He added that his decision to move to Odisha FC after six years with the Blasters was not entirely his own. The general understanding was that the mid-season transfer was solely Rahul’s choice. But he has now openly said that other developments took place inside the club.

When Rahul KP revealed that his club change was not completely a personal decision, it sparked new conversations about player management at Kerala Blasters. His comment, “Leaving the Blasters was not my own decision. Many things happened inside the club that most people outside do not know about,” has fueled more debate.

Rahul KP left Kerala Blasters to join Odisha FC in January 2024. The club had issued an official statement about the transfer and extended its best wishes to the player. Reports at the time also suggested that the move was at the request of Odisha FC’s coach, Sergio Lobera. Back then, Rahul had also said he was ready to take on new challenges and that Odisha FC was the only club that showed interest in him. However, his new reference to “things that happened inside the club” paints a different picture than what was initially reported.

This disclosure by Rahul KP has started a major discussion. It raises questions for the Blasters’ management about whether there were any administrative lapses or if any players were forced into a situation where they had to leave the club. This is being seen as a failure by the club in retaining local talent.
