Patrick Vieira has raised concerns about Arsenal‘s mental strength in their chase for the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal suffered a 3-2 loss to Manchester United on Sunday, which narrowed their lead at the top of the Premier League to just four points.
In the past three seasons, Arsenal has finished as runners-up after leading the league for significant periods. Once again leading this season, Vieira questions if his former team can maintain the momentum needed to succeed.
The former captain, who led Arsenal to the 2003-04 Invincible title, expressed worry over how they lost to Manchester United. After equalizing late in the match through Mikel Merino, Arsenal conceded almost immediately, sealing their defeat.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Vieira acknowledged that the title race is still within Arsenal’s control but emphasized the need for the team’s leaders to motivate their teammates.
“They are still four points clear, but questions about the team’s mental strength remain,” Vieira stated.
“It’s not just about losing the game; it’s the manner of the loss. (Bukayo) Saka and (Leandro) Trossard didn’t create enough problems for United.”
“They need a leader to boost the team’s spirit. They must realize that on the pitch, they need to play with greater energy and take more risks—they have the talent.”
