New Arsenal player Viktor Gyokeres has immediately attracted significant attention from the London club’s fans. As reported by Football London on Tuesday (July 29), Gyokeres’ jerseys are reportedly selling like hotcakes.
“Gyokeres jersey sales have broken the club’s sales record,” Football London wrote. Unfortunately, Football London has not released the exact sales figures.
Football London stated that data from various outlets and retailers is still being analyzed. However, demand for Gyokeres’ number 14 jersey exceeds that of any other player in the club’s history.
Furthermore, Arsenal’s jersey marketing strategy with Gyokeres’ name is indeed intriguing. To celebrate Gyokeres’ arrival, Arsenal is offering free printing of his name on the 2025-2026 Arsenal jersey.
Typically, the player name screen printing service at the club’s official store costs GBP 16 (Rp 350,000) per jersey. The free name screen printing service will run until Thursday (July 31).
It’s no wonder Gyokeres’ jerseys are selling so well. The Gunners’ supporters have a historical and emotional connection to the number worn by the Swedish player. Indeed, Arsenal’s number 14 is synonymous with Arsenal’s all-time top scorer, Thierry Henry.
In fact, at his former club, Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres wore number 9. However, that number was already used by Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal.
Gyokeres then switched his shirt number to 14, the number Henry wore for his nine seasons at Arsenal.
Gyokeres completed his move to Arsenal on July 26 for an initial fee of £63.5 million (Rp 1.39 trillion). The 27-year-old immediately flew to Asia to join the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong.
Gyokeres was then introduced to the crowd at Singapore’s National Stadium, receiving a standing ovation from the fans in attendance.
“Arsenal fans have been waiting for a new striker for some time. The arrival of a center-forward has been highly anticipated, and Gyokeres’ arrival has sparked immense excitement among the fans,” wrote Football London.
