Vilakazi: Sundowns has gone down the mountain
Mamelodi Sundowns have been eliminated from the Carling Knockout after losing to Marumo Gallants in a tense penalty shootout at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Following a goalless draw in extra time, Gallants won 7-6 on penalties against the reigning Betway Premiership champions.
In a post-match interview with iDiski Times, Benedict Vilakazi criticized coach Miguel Cardoso, stating he should resign.
“It feels like Sundowns has climbed a mountain, but instead of others ascending, they’ve chosen to descend,” he said. “Sundowns are in contention for five trophies; they’ve lost two already, leaving them with three, excluding the Champions League,” he added.

“This means they have two trophies to pursue, and the club has set the expectation that the coach must win three: the Champions League, the Betway Premiership, and one domestic trophy.
“Given that two targets are already missed, it implies he may not achieve the remaining goals. With only two trophies left to fight for, it signals that he might be leaving,” the former Orlando Pirates player from Diepkloof, Soweto concluded.
