Rivals on the pitch – friends in real life.
Vinicius has personal experience with racism.
Details: At a press conference ahead of the Champions League match against Bayern, Real Madrid‘s winger expressed his support for Barcelona‘s Lamine Yamal, who faced racist abuse from fans during the Spain vs. Egypt match.
During that game, some fans chanted offensive slogans targeting Muslims, a group that Yamal belongs to:
“I hope Lamine can continue this fight against racism. We have money, but many black people face greater challenges than we do. I’m not claiming that Spain, Germany, or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists everywhere. If we stand together, I hope more players and people will stop suffering,” said the Real Madrid winger.
Vinicius has been involved in multiple racist incidents, making him aware of the necessity to combat inequality based on race or religion.
Reminder: Vinícius shares thoughts on Xabi Alonso’s departure and explains why he did not say goodbye.
