After the 2026 World Cup, Didier Deschamps will end his tenure as the head coach of the French national team. During the group draw event on Friday, Moroccan head coach Walid Regragui took the opportunity to compliment Deschamps while addressing Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation.
“You have a great coach there. You’ll realize it later. Well, I hope not, but you have the best,” Regragui stated, as reported by L’Équipe. “I swear I didn’t pay him,” Deschamps added with a laugh. Having been at the helm of the French team since 2012 and set to depart after the 2026 World Cup, Deschamps has won the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League, and finished as a finalist in Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup.
