Wayne Rooney, the famous striker for Manchester United and England, has brought attention to his interest in boxing once again.
Details: In a recent chat with British rapper Aitch, Wayne revealed that the media figure he would most like to face in the boxing ring is TV host Jonathan Ross.
Rooney’s passion for combat sports is well-known. He trained in boxing as a youth while at Everton, walked Ricky Hatton to the ring in Las Vegas, and starred in a viral video from 2015 where former teammate Phil Bardsley “knocked him out” in his kitchen. Choosing Ross as an opponent has personal significance.
The tension goes back to 2003 when Ross humorously mocked pictures of a young Rooney on his show. In a 2022 interview with the Daily Mail, Rooney shared that he had felt a strong urge to “smack” Ross at that time. Now, when asked about a celebrity he’d like to fight, Rooney pointed to Ross, hinting at the history without elaboration.
Reminder: Manchester United legend Butt mentioned the ideal candidate for the club’s head coach position.
