What happens if Mexico win, tie or lose vs Honduras today at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals?

Mexico face Honduras in the semifinals of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.

This Wednesday night, Mexico and Honduras will face off in their semifinal matchup at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. Both teams have had a solid run so far and are looking to reach Sunday’s final, where they’ll face the winner of the United States vs Guatemala match.

Mexico cruised through the group stage, defeating the Dominican Republic and Suriname in their first two games and drawing with Costa Rica on Matchday 3. That allowed them to advance as Group A leaders and take on the second-place team from Group D, Saudi Arabia, in the quarterfinals. There, Javier Aguirre’s squad earned a 2-0 win to book their spot in the semifinals.

Honduras had a tougher path. They opened with a heavy 6-0 loss to Canada but bounced back with wins over El Salvador and Curazao to finish second in Group B. In the quarterfinals, they drew 1-1 with Panama in regulation time and secured a place in the semifinals after winning the penalty shootout.

The semifinal match between Mexico and Honduras at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup will be played Wednesday at 10 PM (ET) at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

What happens if Mexico beat Honduras?

If Mexico earn a win over Honduras in the 90 minutes of regulation time, they will advance to the final of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. There, they’ll face the winner of the other semifinal between the United States and Guatemala. That title match will take place Sunday, July 6 at 7 PM (ET) at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

What happens if Mexico lose to Honduras?

If Honduras come out on top tonight, they’ll move on to the final of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. In that case, Mexico would be eliminated from the competition and lose the opportunity to defend their 2023 title.

What happens if Mexico and Honduras draw?

The semifinal between Mexico and Honduras is a knockout match, meaning one team must advance to the next round. That means if the score is level after 90 minutes of regulation, a winner still needs to be determined.

However, the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup rules state that only the final includes extra time. As a result, if Mexico and Honduras are tied at the end of regulation, the match will go straight to a penalty shootout to decide who advances to the final.
