Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will face off this Sunday in the Wimbledon final.

With the era of the Big Three—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic—now in the past, the tennis world appears to be entering a new phase dominated by two rising stars: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. These two have been at the center of most major tournaments in recent times, and Wimbledon is no exception.

This Sunday, they’ll meet in the championship match at the year’s third Grand Slam. Jannik, playing in his first final at this level and chasing his first title on the grass of London, took down Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Carlos, meanwhile, defeated World No. 5 Taylor Fritz and now aims to claim his third consecutive title.

At Wimbledon, Alcaraz and Sinner will meet for the 13th time in their professional careers—undoubtedly one of their most significant showdowns yet. Not only is this a major tournament, but the winner will also take home a highly coveted title.

Their last three meetings have all come in finals. The most recent—and arguably the most important—was just a month ago at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz won a memorable five-set thriller. The Spanish star also triumphed in the previous two finals: the 2024 Rome Masters 1000 and the 2024 China Open. Their only other final came back in 2022, when the current World No. 1 defeated Carlos in straight sets at the ATP 250 event in Umag.

The full head-to-head between Alcaraz and Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz has clearly gained the upper hand over Jannik Sinner in their recent matchups. Of their 12 meetings, the Spaniard has won eight and lost only four. That edge has been built largely over the past two seasons, with five straight victories from 2024 to 2025.

In addition to the three finals mentioned above, Alcaraz also defeated Sinner in the semifinals of both Roland Garros and Indian Wells in 2024. To find Sinner’s last win, you have to go back to October 2023, when he beat Alcaraz in the semifinals in Beijing.

Before that, the rivalry had been more balanced, with Sinner earning wins in Miami 2023, Umag and Wimbledon 2022. Alcaraz, on the other hand, had prevailed in the 2021 Paris Masters 1000, the 2022 US Open, and 2023 Indian Wells.

The only previous Wimbledon clash between Sinner and Alcaraz

Sunday’s match will mark just the second time Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz face each other at Wimbledon. Their only previous meeting at the All England Club came in 2022, when both were still early in their ATP Tour journeys. That encounter happened in the round of 16, with the Italian taking the win in four sets. He would go on to lose to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
