Florian Wirtz has stated that extra gym work has aided his adaptation to the Premier League.

The Germany international had a challenging start at Liverpool after joining from Bayer Leverkusen for up to £116m. Despite the significant investment, Wirtz did not score in his first 21 matches for the club.

He has since found the net six times for Liverpool and was nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month in January. The midfielder acknowledged that additional training sessions have improved his ability to handle the league’s physical demands.

“I believe I’m in a stronger position now than I was at the start,” he said on the club’s official website.

“I spent a lot of time in the gym! The duels during games and training, along with extra work after practice, have really helped me.

“This helps me in matches, particularly in the Premier League. I aim to keep improving and becoming stronger and more powerful. This will only enhance my performance.

“I enjoy playing this intense style of football because I can run and compete, and I like to showcase that on the field. It took me some time to reach this point, but I’m determined to keep moving forward.”
