Florian Wirtz expressed his contentment after scoring his first goal for Liverpool, leading them to victory against Wolves in the Premier League.
The midfielder’s goal came after Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring in the first half, putting Liverpool 2-0 ahead.
Wolves responded early in the second half with a goal from Santiago Bueno, following another set-piece defensive lapse from Liverpool. However, Liverpool held on for their fourth consecutive win across all competitions.
Florian Wirtz excited about first goal helping Liverpool defeat Wolves
“The feeling on the pitch with the fans was wonderful. I was very happy, and I still am,” Wirtz said after the match.
“I believed that I would score eventually. I wanted to start scoring and assisting earlier, but I understand it takes time. I know my chance will come, and I will keep pushing forward.”
Liverpool seemed set for a comfortable victory but allowed Wolves back into the match after halftime, fortunate that Wolves didn’t level the score.
“We played a great first half,” Wirtz noted. “We lost control for a bit, but everyone was working hard. The last 20 minutes became tricky. I can’t explain why, but we need to improve that.”
“We want to keep performing well and stay at the top of the table. It’s been a tough start, but we are improving and collecting points.”
