CONMEBOL has announced that the Women’s Copa Libertadores 2025 will feature VAR in every match, starting from the group stage. Alejandro Domínguez, the organization’s president, shared this update on social media, highlighting it as an important step towards fairness and transparency in South American football.
Previously, video technology was only used in the tournament’s final rounds. In the upcoming edition, taking place at the Nuevo Francisco Urbano and Florencio Sola stadiums, VAR will be utilized from the start of the group stage until the final match. The organization recognized the considerable logistical and financial efforts involved but emphasized the importance of clear rules and fair play.
The tournament format will stay the same, featuring 16 teams divided into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals, a third-place match, and the final.
This decision represents a significant achievement for women’s football in South America, enhancing its professional standards and increasing its visibility on a global scale.
