The former Liverpool player led Leverkusen to their first-ever German title without a single loss, and was a leading choice to replace Jurgen Klopp before Slot was hired in 2024.
Alonso is currently without a club after being dismissed by Real Madrid in January, just months after taking over last summer.
Reports from Germany indicate that Liverpool is ramping up efforts to hire him if results do not improve under Slot in the remaining matches.
BILD suggests that the 44-year-old is prepared to take over at Anfield this summer should an offer be made.
