Real Madrid recently celebrated a significant victory in the Clasico against FC Barcelona, winning 2-1. However, the focus has shifted from the match to Vinicius Jr, who displayed frustration when substituted by Xabi Alonso in the second half. On Wednesday, the player took to social media to apologize: “Today, I want to apologize to all Real Madrid supporters for my reaction when I was substituted during the Clasico. As I already did in person during today’s training, I also want to apologize again to my teammates, the club, and the president.”

Spanish media have pointed out that Vinicius Jr did not mention his coach, Xabi Alonso, in his apology. Reports suggest that the relationship between the two is strained, with the player feeling unfairly treated, causing him to contemplate a move away from the club.

Alonso’s Response to the Team

According to El Chiringuito de Jugones, during Wednesday’s training return, Vinicius Jr also apologized to his teammates and staff. He received a rather cold response from Xabi Alonso, who stated, “If anyone wants to complain about something, it should be done privately, not in front of everyone,” addressing the Brazilian in front of the entire squad. This clearly indicates the discomfort the coach feels regarding his forward’s behavior.

The media further reported that before Vinicius Jr’s public apology, the atmosphere was tense, but his gesture relieved everyone, allowing training to proceed smoothly. The two had a brief private discussion afterwards, where Vinicius reiterated his public apologies. Xabi Alonso accepted the apologies from the former Flamengo player; however, reconciliation seems a distant prospect, even though it appears that the player will not face any punishment for his rebellious actions.
