As the clash between Olympique de Marseille and Newcastle approaches at the Vélodrome on Tuesday night (21:00 IST), the police prefecture has announced a significant security plan. Strict measures have been implemented, including a decree prohibiting anyone claiming to be a supporter of the Magpies—or displaying similar behavior—from moving or parking freely in the city, except at designated meeting points monitored by law enforcement, reports RMC Sport.
Nearly 500 English supporters have already arrived in Marseille since Monday, out of the 3,300 expected. Their presence has prompted a noticeable deployment of law enforcement, especially around the Vieux-Port and near various bars and pubs frequented by visitors. The remainder of the Toon fans is expected to arrive on Tuesday. To prevent any disturbances, 1,000 police officers and riot control teams will be on duty over these two days, while drones will patrol the city center and the areas around the Vélodrome Stadium to monitor for potential troublemakers. It’s a major operation.
