Footem.in – Kobbie Mainoo, the young midfielder from Manchester United, is reportedly considering leaving Old Trafford as the summer transfer window nears its end, with five potential clubs interested in signing him.
Mainoo was initially touted as the next big star from Manchester United’s academy. He even earned a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024 and started in several matches.
However, just a year later, the 20-year-old has found it challenging to get game time under manager Ruben Amorim, who has struggled to find the right role for him.
This situation has led Mainoo to contemplate a move, especially since the club is open to his departure. So, where could he go? Here are five clubs that might be his next destination.
Tottenham Hotspur
Speculation about Mainoo transferring to Tottenham has increased after he shared a photo wearing a classic Spurs jersey while celebrating his 20th birthday.
Though he’s not a pure playmaker, Mainoo’s ball control, creativity, and agility in tight spaces could prove advantageous for Spurs’ midfield. The London club has a budget of around Rp1.28 trillion for new signings.
Chelsea
Chelsea is also interested in Mainoo, having previously shown interest back in January. Their aggressive shopping style keeps the option of signing him very much alive.
In Enzo Maresca’s system, Mainoo could play deeper alongside Moisés Caicedo or pair up with Cole Palmer and João Pedro in midfield, providing an excellent environment for his growth.
AS Roma
Roma, now under coach Gian Piero Gasperini, also presents a potential destination. With captain Lorenzo Pellegrini likely leaving, Gasperini can establish a new midfield with Mainoo and Manu Koné.
Although a permanent transfer this summer seems unlikely, a loan deal could be an attractive solution for both parties.
Brighton and Hove Albion
Manchester United is trying to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton, and including Mainoo in the deal might be an appealing option.
Tony Bloom is believed to be interested in acquiring Mainoo, even if it means letting go of a valuable asset worth over Rp2.1 trillion (£100 million). For United, this deal could be a strategic move for the long term.
Bayern Munich
Interest from Bayern Munich in Mainoo surfaced during the winter transfer window. The German club is seeking a temporary replacement due to Jamal Musiala’s severe injury during the Club World Cup.
Even if Mainoo is not a traditional number 10, many predict he could thrive in Bundesliga football. Bayern must also consider future midfield transitions as Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka age.
Mainoo has the potential to be a key part of a new generation alongside Aleksandar Pavlović and Tom Bischof.
