Zidane set to take charge of France national team.
Former Real Madrid player and coach Zinedine Zidane is likely returning to coaching.
Details: El Nacional reports that Zidane has been in discussions with the French Football Federation for the past few months, and they are close to reaching an agreement.
Zidane will become the head coach of the French national team after the 2026 World Cup when current manager Didier Deschamps steps down. Deschamps has been leading Les Bleus since 2012.
Zinedine Zidane held various positions at Real Madrid and became the head coach in January 2016. During his two seasons in charge, he won three Champions League titles, the La Liga trophy, and other honors. In 2017, he was recognized as the world’s best coach. After winning a third consecutive Champions League in 2018, Zidane left, only to return to the club in 2019.
For the record: Mbappé has commented on the potential hiring of Zidane as France’s head coach.
