Following Ruben Amorim’s exit from Manchester United, Under-18s manager Darren Fletcher was appointed to lead the senior team against Burnley.
As they traveled to Turf Moor, Fletcher welcomed back several injured players, raising hopes for a positive outcome.
Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Mason Mount returned, but it wasn’t enough to secure all three points against a team facing relegation.
The Red Devils fell behind early, in the 13th minute, when a cross deflected off Ayden Heaven and went over Senne Lammens into the net.
However, Benjamin Sesko found his stride, scoring twice to give United a fleeting lead.
Just six minutes after Sesko’s brace, Jaidon Anthony equalized, leaving United unable to secure a winning goal.
Despite the 2-2 scoreline, United dominated the match and created several chances, while Burnley had to make multiple goal-line clearances.
After the match, Darren Fletcher confirmed he will continue to manage the senior team for at least one more game.
When asked about future plans after the Burnley match, Fletcher said, “I’ve talked to the board, and I’ll be in charge for the Brighton game, and we’ll see from there.”
He added, “We’re taking it one game at a time, so we’ll recover from this match and prepare for Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.”
The upcoming Brighton match carries extra significance, especially after the club’s early exit from the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town.
The FA Cup represents one of the team’s few opportunities for silverware this season, as well as a potential pathway back to European competition.
Two years ago, United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City allowed them to enter the Europa League despite finishing eighth in the league.
With United struggling to break into the top five this season, the FA Cup may once again become essential.
