Liverpool‘s plan for Jeremy Jacquet influenced his choice to join the club over Chelsea.
The club is nearing a deal to sign the Rennes defender for up to €70 million, including add-ons. The transfer will happen in the summer, as Rennes prefers to keep the 20-year-old until then.
Chelsea had also been in talks with Rennes for Jacquet, but the player’s preference for Liverpool has led Chelsea to withdraw their interest.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that both clubs offered the same financial package, but Liverpool’s promise of an immediate key role convinced Jacquet to choose them.
“Jeremy Jacquet accepted the same terms from Liverpool that were offered by Chelsea. Liverpool didn’t offer extra money,” Romano explained.
