Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation has improved this season with the arrival of Senne Lammens.

The Belgian goalkeeper joined from Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2025 for £18 million, taking over as the club’s first-choice keeper from Andre Onana.

Onana struggled with consistency over the last two years, and Altay Bayindir also did not perform well when given a chance.

Now, Lammens has brought renewed confidence to the goalkeeper position. Tony Coton, the scout responsible for Lammens’ signing, is also looking at other young talents.

Coton advocated for Lammens over Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and was recently spotted at Old Trafford observing Sunderland’s Joseph Cowan.

According to reports, Coton focused on the 17-year-old during the FA Youth Cup match.

Cowan saved two penalties in the shootout against West Brom, helping Sunderland advance to the Quarter-Finals.

However, Sunderland’s cup run ended against Manchester United, who won 3-2 thanks to goals from Noah Ajayi, Chido Obi, and Nathaniel Junior-Brown.

Cowan did make several notable saves in the match, stopping chances from both Obi and Ajayi.

Coton has not just limited his search to Cowan; he was also seen at a Cymru Premier match recently.

He observed Kit Margetson, a young keeper on loan from Swansea City to Connah’s Quay Nomads, where Margetson has kept clean sheets in 10 of his 30 games.

Clearly, with Cowan and Margetson, United is focused on securing strong goalkeeping options for the future.
