Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced that James Trafford will be the starting goalkeeper for the Carabao Cup final this weekend.

Manchester City will face Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday, competing for the first trophy of the season. Guardiola is placing his trust in Trafford for this important match.

Although Trafford has mostly been the backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Premier League, he has played throughout the club’s Carabao Cup journey.

Guardiola confirmed his choice to stick with the 23-year-old during a pre-match press conference, calling it a “big moment for the team.”

The manager addressed Trafford’s recent comments regarding his feelings about limited playing time.

Trafford returned to Manchester City from Burnley this summer, just before Donnarumma’s notable transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. He has only played 270 minutes in the league and has made 12 starts across all competitions.

Regarding Trafford’s statements, Guardiola remarked: “Good. Nothing to say. Players can be happy or unhappy; it is what it is. We need to do our best while they’re on the field, and at the end of the season, we’ll evaluate everything.”
