Javier Aguirre will resign as head coach of the Mexico national team immediately following the 2026 World Cup. Reports confirm that Aguirre’s departure is inevitable, regardless of how the team performs in the tournament.
The Mexican Football Federation has swiftly identified a successor. Rafa Márquez, a 47-year-old Spanish coach currently serving as Aguirre’s assistant, has been announced as the new head coach for the national team post-World Cup. Márquez previously led Barcelona B from 2022 to 2024.
Taking the helm in 2024, Aguirre has overseen 85 matches, securing 51 wins, 17 draws, and 17 losses during his tenure.
