Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has issued a critical statement regarding the ongoing corruption investigation involving Barcelona. He described the “Negreira case” as the most blatant scandal in the history of world football, expressing his astonishment at the lack of definitive results from the proceedings thus far.

Pérez emphasized the need for immediate and transparent legal evaluation of the situation, wherein a club paid the vice-president of the referees’ technical committee for two decades. He highlighted that referees who officiated during this time remain active in their roles.

“The same referees from the Negreira era are still active. They’re still officiating. It makes no sense,” stated the president of Los Blancos.

He further asserted it is unacceptable for individuals who were involved during the period of questionable payments to continue officiating professional league matches after so many years. This statement was made during an emergency press conference following a meeting of the club’s board of directors.
