The departure of José Mourinho from Benfica appears increasingly likely as the club’s management considers potential successors. Reports suggest that Benfica is eyeing former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez as a serious candidate to take the reins.

Details: According to Diario AS, referencing Record, Benfica is actively evaluating Xavi, 46, to replace Mourinho. Alongside Xavi, former Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim is also being considered for the position. However, Amorim’s prior association with Sporting Lisbon may complicate his willingness to switch to Benfica.

Mourinho’s exit is deemed inevitable, with Real Madrid reportedly making substantial efforts to secure his services. His tenure in Lisbon may soon conclude as the club prepares for a leadership change.

Xavi’s most recent managerial stint was with Barcelona, where he served from 2021 to 2024. During his time with the club, he oversaw 143 matches, achieving 91 victories, 23 draws, and 29 losses.
