FIFA has officially appointed Mustapha Ghorbal to referee Scotland’s opening match against Haiti in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The seasoned Algerian referee will direct the Group-stage fixture, marking a significant role for African officials at one of the world’s most prestigious football tournaments.

Joining Ghorbal on the officiating team are fellow Algerians Mokrane Gourari and Abbes Akram Zerhouni, who will serve as assistant referees for the encounter.

Additionally, Alejandro Hernandez has been designated as the fourth official, while Jose Enrique Naranjo has been appointed to manage Video Assistant Referee (VAR) responsibilities.
