Argentina’s national football team received tough news ahead of their World Cup opener against Algeria. Key left-back Nicolás Tagliafico will not participate in the match due to an injury.
According to L’Equipe, the 33-year-old Lyon player experienced severe pain in his left calf muscle. After discussions with the coaching staff and medical team, the decision was made to prioritize Tagliafico’s health and exclude him from the starting lineup.
This injury follows the earlier withdrawal of Leonardo Balerdi from the Argentina camp, also due to injury. Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi has since been called up to replace Balerdi.
Argentina is set to face Algeria in their opening match of the World Cup, where they are drawn into Group J, alongside Austria and Jordan.
