The Democratic Republic of the Congo is set to make its World Cup debut this Wednesday, June 17, against Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo. Ahead of the match, French manager Sébastien Desabre expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to face the formidable opponents.
This clash marks DR Congo’s first match in the ongoing World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Desabre acknowledged the significance of the challenge when going up against one of the world’s top football teams but maintains that focus should not solely be on this encounter.
During a press conference, Desabre provided updates on the fitness of his squad, emphasizing they are “one hundred percent fit” for the match. He indicated that the team’s strategy is not centered on merely this match, stating that qualification will depend on their performance throughout the group stage.
“Our aim is to secure three or four points to progress to the next round. We’re playing against one of the best teams in the world, and we can’t wait to get started. We’ll play to our strengths; we’ve got what it takes to make our mark on the pitch,” Desabre said.
