In a recent statement, Benni McCarthy expressed disappointment over the Bafana Bafana’s performance against Czechia, emphasizing that the team should have fought harder for three points in that match.
As South Africa prepares to face South Korea on Thursday in a crucial Group A World Cup match, McCarthy, who currently coaches the Kenyan national team, voiced concerns about the team’s chances. Following a draw with Czechia in Atlanta, he noted the significance of capitalizing on that opportunity.
“I felt there was an opportunity for South Africa to make it a little bit easier for themselves,” McCarthy told BBC Sport. He cautioned that the match against Czechia was one he would have targeted for a decisive victory.
Reflecting on South Korea’s performance against the Czech Republic, McCarthy remarked, “If we say we have a chance against South Korea…I struggle.” His comments highlight the challenges facing Bafana Bafana as they approach their final group stage encounter.
