Hugo Broos, the coach of Bafana Bafana, has responded defiantly to calls for his resignation amid criticism of the team’s recent performances. Following a 1-1 draw against Czechia, Broos expressed confidence in his contributions to the South African national side.

In his statement, he highlighted the progress made over the past five years, noting, “If you see five years ago, nobody knew Bafana Bafana, and look what we did in these five years and now the results are not what people expect.” Broos emphasized the difference between expectations and the reality of the team’s situation.

Broos continued to address the criticism he has faced, stating, “They don’t think ‘are we able’, they just expect things. And then you get the negative side of my job, the criticism, people wanting you to resign, and whatever.” He reaffirmed his commitment to the team despite the backlash.

With over 40 years of coaching experience, Broos mentioned that such criticism does not affect him personally, declaring, “the criticism is just water off my body. They can write and say what they want, I do what I think I need to do and today I think I did what I needed to do.”
