The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to achieve a significant milestone, as the match between Japan and Tunisia will be the tournament’s 1,000th game. To commemorate this historic occasion, the referee will don a special uniform featuring golden accents.

Romanian referee István Kovács has received a uniquely designed kit, which includes golden stripes and a commemorative badge that reads “Match No. 1000.” This special attire aims to enhance the significance of the match.

This milestone is particularly noteworthy as it occurs 96 years after the first-ever World Cup, which was hosted in Uruguay in 1930. The Japan vs. Tunisia match is scheduled to take place on June 21 at 6:00 a.m. Central European Time.
