Tunisia’s hopes in the World Cup have come to a disappointing end, as the Eagles of Carthage were unable to find success under the new head coach, Hervé Renard. Competing in the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Tunisia has failed to advance past the group stage.

The team’s campaign started on a low note, suffering a heavy 5–1 defeat against Sweden in their opening match. This was followed by an even more daunting 4–0 loss to Japan, leaving the Tunisian side with no chance to continue in the tournament.

Tunisia has now become the second African nation in World Cup history to concede at least nine goals in their first two matches, joining Zaire, which allowed 11 goals in 1974.

Furthermore, Tunisia has made history as the first team since Greece in 1994 to lose both of their opening matches in a World Cup edition by a margin of four goals.
