Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has indicated that he is not necessarily stepping away from coaching after the current World Cup tournament, despite hinting that these could be some of his final games in the profession.

Broos, who recently led the team to the knockout stages, stated, “This is probably one of my last games as a coach… but you never know, certainly my last World Cup,” following South Africa’s 1-0 victory over South Korea at Estadio Monterrey.

At 74, Broos acknowledged the challenges of continuing in the sport, especially considering his age as he humorously noted, “The next one is in four years when I’m 78. I don’t think that’s an age to be on the bench. Certainly in those nervous moments, it’s not good for the health.”

Meanwhile, the South African Football Association (Safa) has begun the process of finding Broos’ replacement, a step that started prior to the World Cup. On Sunday, Broos and his squad will face Canada in a historic last-32 match, marking the first time South Africa has progressed to this stage in World Cup history.
