Achraf Hakimi has etched his name into the annals of African football by becoming the most-capped African player in FIFA World Cup history. This milestone was achieved during Morocco’s Group C match against Scotland in the 2026 tournament.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender celebrated his 12th World Cup appearance, solidifying his position at the top of the continent’s all-time rankings. Hakimi entered the tournament with 10 appearances, having previously added to his tally in Morocco’s 1–1 draw against Brazil.

His latest appearance against Scotland marked a significant achievement, placing him ahead of Cameroon’s François Omam-Biyik and Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan, who each held the record with 11 appearances.
