“He Always Wants to Win” — Alex Iwobi Opens Up on Victor Osimhen’s Relentless Mentality
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has shared insights into the fierce competitive spirit of his Nigerian teammate, Victor Osimhen. He describes Osimhen as not just driven but obsessed with winning—even in training.
During an episode of the Best Mode On podcast with Adebayo Akinfenwa, Iwobi highlighted how Osimhen’s mindset sets him apart, even among top athletes.
Iwobi noted that Osimhen’s intensity is unyielding, often leading him to engage in physical challenges in practice that others might shy away from.
“He’s a cool guy, but every training session, he often ends up getting hurt because he’s putting himself in positions he shouldn’t. He’s always fighting for the ball,” Iwobi explained.
“I’m not surprised he is where he is now. Some might say he’s not the most polished, but Victor creates five chances a game through sheer hard work and determination.
“He doesn’t care who you are—whether you’re [Virgil] van Dijk or someone from non-league football, he will fight. He plays in the Champions League with the same intensity as if he’s with his friends.
“He always wants to win. That mentality is impressive. Sometimes it can be a bit much; in training, he’s competitive to the point of willing to bend the rules just to win. But that’s just who he is.”
