South Africa’s national football team, Bafana Bafana, has postponed their travel plans to the World Cup due to visa-related issues. The team was set to depart from OR Tambo International Airport this morning for Mexico, but those arrangements were disrupted by the visa complications.
Despite holding a send-off concert yesterday in anticipation of their departure, the team was unable to leave. This setback is significant as the World Cup is set to commence soon, with the tournament taking place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Bafana Bafana is scheduled to face Mexico in the opening match on June 11. They had planned to travel via a chartered flight, but reports indicate an ‘administrative mix-up’ resulted in several players not receiving their visas in time. So far, only head coach Hugo Broos has managed to obtain his travel visa, while his technical staff remains without clearance.
As the tournament approaches, there is uncertainty regarding when the team will be able to travel, raising concerns about their preparedness for the upcoming matches.
