As Bafana Bafana continues to face turmoil in their World Cup preparations, their Group A rivals are finding success in their recent friendly matches. Mexico, set to compete against Bafana in the tournament’s opening match, has emerged victorious in their last two encounters, most recently defeating Australia.
Under the leadership of Javier Aguirre, Mexico secured a 2-0 win over Ghana before clinching a 1-0 victory against the Socceroos yesterday. Meanwhile, South Korea has also showcased strong performances, trouncing Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in their latest friendly, following prior wins of 4-0 against Ivory Coast and 1-0 against Austria.
In contrast, Bafana Bafana’s recent experiences have been less favorable. The team encountered visa issues on the final day of travel and could only manage a goalless draw against Nicaragua on Friday night. They are currently viewed as the weakest side in Group A.
Bafana will face Jamaica on Friday in what will be their last friendly match before the highly anticipated opening showdown against Mexico next Thursday.
