Bayern Munich has asserted its position regarding defender Alphonso Davies’ participation in the upcoming World Cup. The club has stated that neither Davies nor the Canadian Football Federation will have the authority to independently determine his readiness for the tournament.

Club spokesperson Stefan Kumberger highlighted that this stance is rooted in a serious incident from March 2025, where an erroneous diagnosis by the national team doctors nearly jeopardized Davies’ career due to an ACL injury. As a result, Bayern Munich has implemented stringent conditions surrounding his recovery.

The management has mandated that all aspects of Davies’ recovery and the final decision on his return to play must be overseen exclusively by the club’s medical staff. Bayern is convinced that only their specialists possess the necessary expertise to ensure the player’s safety.

Given the previous diagnostic error in Canada, Bayern Munich is determined to protect their valuable asset, prioritizing the player’s well-being over national team interests.
