José Mourinho has departed from S.L. Benfica to assume the role of head coach at Real Madrid CF, prompting Benfica to identify their next leader.

Details: Reports from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano indicate that former Fulham F.C. manager Marco Silva is poised to take over at Benfica. Romano has confirmed the appointment with his signature phrase, “Here we go!” Silva is expected to sign a contract lasting until June 2028, with the option for an extension through 2029.

The Portuguese coach has also agreed to a salary reduction in exchange for the chance to compete for significant trophies. This move signifies his return to Portugal after spending a decade abroad.

In another development, Nicolás Otamendi, a 38-year-old Argentina international and former Manchester City F.C. defender, has finalized his transfer to Club Atlético River Plate as a free agent.
