A major loss for English football has been confirmed with the passing of former Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and England striker Bobby Tambling at the age of 84. Reports indicate that he passed away during the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
Bobby Tambling made history at Chelsea, where he held the club’s all-time goalscoring record for several decades until it was surpassed by Frank Lampard. During his career, he earned three caps for the England national team, scoring one goal.
Over his professional career, Tambling played 436 matches for various clubs, netting 210 goals and providing 12 assists. His last professional engagement was with the Irish club Shamrock Rovers, which he left in 1979 upon announcing his retirement from football.
