Chelsea is actively engaged in the transfer market as new head coach Xabi Alonso prepares for his inaugural season at Stamford Bridge. Reports indicate that Alonso has expressed concerns regarding the reliability of the club’s current goalkeeping options, prompting a search for a new number one.
Initially, Chelsea set their sights on Roma’s goalkeeper Mile Svilar, reportedly placing an official bid of €50 million. However, the Italian club firmly rejected the offer, asserting that Svilar is not available for transfer this summer. In response to this setback, Chelsea has redirected its efforts towards acquiring Mike Maignan, the star goalkeeper of AC Milan.
Last season, Chelsea made a concerted attempt to sign Maignan, but the Rossoneri withdrew him from the market. The situation has become more complex following Maignan’s contract extension with Milan until 2030. This season, he has made 41 appearances across all competitions, achieving 16 clean sheets, with Transfermarkt currently valuing the player at €20 million.
Former Chelsea striker Bobby Tambling has passed away.
